In Memory

Keith Walker

After two years of courageous battles to regain his health from throat cancer, Keith F, Walker passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday morning, April 25, 2014.  He is survived by his wife Betty, children, Barry, Brian and Shannon.  Keith spent much of his youth at the Boys Club and was Phoenix Boy of the Year in 1969.  He was an avid lifelong baseball fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

So sad to hear.  Your family remains in my prayers.  May you rest in peace, Keith.

Keith lived across the street from me. I knew his family, his parents, his brother and sisters. I suspected this was coming. I sent him birthday greetings last year and he confided that his treatments were not going well. I feel certain he is in a better place and that his pain is over.

The Boys Club was kitty corner from the elementary school that we attended together. I think he spent some time there when we were growing up. A family I knew when we were growing up had a Navajo Placement student in their home. (For those who don't know, these were Navajo children who lived on the reservation. During the school year, they would come and live with a family so they could attend a regular school.) Anyway, the ice cream truck would stop in front of the Boys Club. Lee would often say, "Keith Walker, buy me ice cream." More often than not, when Keith had the money, he would. Keith had a big heart. I will miss him.

So saddened by this news!  Keith was such a kind person, not surprised when I read Norman's tale of Keith buying ice cream for a kid who couldn't afford it. I would run into him at D'backs games sometimes with the ever-present smile on his face, that's how I remember him. Sorry to hear of his pain and suffering.  May he finally Rest In Peace. Keith and his family are in my prayers
